Swim Meet Information   YMCA Meets   US Swim Meets   Qualifying Times
 | | Swim Meet InformationGeneral InformationThe Sharks are both a registered YMCA team and a USA Swimming team in the New Jersey LSC (Local Swim Conference).
Registration as a member of both organizations gives our swimmers a chance to experience all events
offered in swimming competition. However, as a YMCA, if there was conflict between attending a USS Swimming event and a YMCA event, the YMCA event would take precedence.
Attending a Swim MeetWhether YMCA or USS Swimming competition, it is important that swimmers from West Morris sit together in the pool area and warm-up together. This means that the swimmers will be under the supervision of the coaches. For our youngest swimmers (8 and under), help from the parents in showing them where the team is seated, writing events on their hands, etc. is appreciated. However, unless timing or officiating, parents are not permitted on the pool deck.
- The swimmer should arrive at the meet prior to warm-up: --Dual meet - 1/2 hour prior to warm-up in AP room for home meets at West Morris and on pool bleachers for home meets at CCM. For away meets swimmers should arrive at WMY 1/2 hour prior to departure. --Invitational Meet - Swimmers should arrive at meet and sit with team 15 minutes prior to warm-up. Upon arriving, swimmer should check in with coach. - Stretching and warm-up is a must before competition. - Working with the coaches, it is the swimmers responsibility to know their heat and lane assignments, and to be behind the blocks for the start of their race. With our 8 & unders, help from our parents is always appreciated. - Immediately reporting to the coach is required, because all invitational meets in New Jersey require positive check-in of each swimmer or they are automatcially scratched from the meet. If you know you might be late, let the coah know in advance to avoid being scratched from the meet. If you have an emergency or become sick and cannot get in touch with the coach, please leave a message on the YMCA Head Coach line, at 973-366-1120, ext. 22. - It is required to wear the team suit and team cap for competition. . - After the event the swimmer should cool down (or stretch if a cool down pool is not available), discuss the swim with the coach, and then get congratulations and hugs from their parents. . - The swimmer should rest and stay hydrated while waiting for their next event. . - Swimmers should remain on deck throughout the meet to cheer for teammates and be available for relays.
- Any swimmer, not swimming a meet or event that they have entered, will be charged the entry fee for those events. The YMCA will only pay for those events a swimmer swims. If a swimmer is too often a no show, or owes the YMCA from previous charges, they will not be entered into future meets including championships. |
