To become an official you will need to attend a training clinic where you will learn the swimming rules and how to officiate. At the clinic you will be given an open book test to demonstrate your understanding of the rules. Following the clinic you will serve under experienced officials until you are comfortable and you have demonstrated that you can apply the rules as you observe the swimmers in competition.
We need parents certified as YMCA officials and as USA Swimming officials. Ideally you will certify as both. The YMCA uses the NCAA Rules while USA Swimming uses the USA Swimming Rules which are based on the international FINA rules. Our swimmers swim in both types of meets and the rules are very similar with a few key exceptions.
